Kind words from Professional Organizer Dorothy Breininger.

Meet Your Pro Organizer Extrordinnaire, Karyn Tomczak

Dancing has defined Karyn for most of her life. After a celebrated 15-year career as a musical theatre performer and 20 years teaching dance in public education, she knows that the qualities that make a great dancer: diligence, accountability, confidence, and an unshakeable work ethic, translate powerfully into any pursuit. For Karyn, that pursuit is helping people reclaim their spaces and simplify their lives.

Her organizing journey began in 2000, when she was hired by Julie Morgenstern, renowned organizing guru and author of Organizing from the Inside Out, as her personal assistant and office manager. In her follow-up book, Julie described Karyn as someone who “arrived like a miracle and instantly freed my mind and time.”

Over the next 20 years, Karyn honed her craft organizing for clients part-time and working at The Container Store, before completing the Boss Organizing Blueprint under “Dorothy the Organizer” from the TV show Hoarders.

Today, Karyn brings that expertise to homes and offices across New York City, Long Island, Westchester, Connecticut, and Northern New Jersey — with a personalized, judgment-free approach that meets every client exactly where they are.

So let Karyn dance her way into your home or office. A streamlined, organized space is just one appointment away.

How To Work With Us

Getting organized is just a few steps away.

Step 1: Schedule a Free Consultation

Every great performance starts with a rehearsal! We begin with a complimentary in-home consultation to view and discuss your space, learn about your goals, and understand your challenges. This is a time to ask questions and make sure that working together feels like a fit on both sides.

No two spaces are alike. After your consultation, Karyn designs a personalized organizing plan tailored to your specific needs, lifestyle, and budget. You’ll know exactly what to expect before we get started.

This is where the magic happens. Karyn will arrive and get to work decluttering, categorizing, and building practical systems that make sense for the way you actually live and work. You can work together or Karyn can work independently and review questions at the end of the session. Whatever works best for your time and budget.

Life changes, and so do your needs. POP is always here for follow-up sessions, seasonal refreshes, or tackling the next space on your list whenever you’re ready.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a professional organizer do?

A professional organizer helps people create functional, manageable systems for their clients’ homes, offices, schedules, and daily lives. The work is about improving how a space functions so life feels less stressful and more efficient.

A professional organizer typically helps with:

-Decluttering and sorting belongings
-Creating storage systems
-Organizing kitchens, closets, paperwork, garages, and offices
-Downsizing for seniors or moves
-Packing and unpacking
-Time management and routines
-Helping clients decide what to keep, donate, sell, or discard
-Setting up systems that are realistic to maintain

What many people don’t realize is that while organizing is physical, it is also psychological. Clutter often represents postponed decisions, stress, grief, lack of time, or overwhelm. A good organizer helps clients move through that process without shame or judgment.

That’s one reason clients often say they feel:

-Lighter
-Calmer
-More productive
-More in control of their homes and schedules

It’s worth noting that professional organizers are not cleaners or interior decorators, although there can be overlap. The main goal is functionality: helping spaces work better for the people living in them.

And in New York, where space is limited and life moves quickly, a professional organizer can help make every square foot count!

How much does a professional organizer cost in New York?

Our rate is $150/hour. If 10 hours are purchased in advance there is a discount.

How does the organizing process work?

We start with a consultation to understand your needs and challenges. Then, we create a customized plan, declutter, categorize, and implement practical systems that you can maintain long-term.

What types of spaces do you organize?

We work with home and office spaces, including closets, kitchens, living areas, workspaces, storage units, garages, and more.

What kinds of people do you help?

We often help clients during major life transitions like:

-Divorce
-Loss of a loved one
-Moving or relocation
-Having a baby
-Caregiving for aging parents
-Retirement or downsizing

With Precision Organizing Plus, the work is especially hands-on and personalized. Rather than simply “making things pretty,” the focus is on creating systems that fit how each client actually lives.

For example, a session with Karyn might include:

-Organizing an overcrowded Brooklyn apartment
-Helping a senior safely downsize
-Setting up family-friendly systems for busy parents
-Creating paperwork systems to reduce stress
-Preparing a home for a move or estate cleanout
-Coaching clients through overwhelm and decision fatigue

Can you help with downsizing or moving?

Yes! We assist with sorting, packing, and creating an efficient plan to make your transition smooth and stress-free. Schedule a free consultation here.

How long does a typical organizing session take?

Karyn usually books 3-4 hour sessions. She is also happy to offer shorter 2-hour sessions for seniors.

Do I need to be home during the organizing session?

It helps. We work one-on-one with most clients as it is important to be involved in decision-making. However, Karyn can also sort and organize independently, preparing follow-up questions for your return. Nothing is ever discarded or donated without your permission – ever!

What Tri-State areas do you serve?

We serve all five boroughs of New York City, Long Island, Westchester, Connecticut, and New Jersey, including Northern NJ & Southern CT

What makes Precision Organizing Plus different from other organizers in New York?

We offer a highly personal, performance-driven experience built around discipline, empathy, and real-life functionality.

Here are a few things that set us apart from other New York Metro Organizers:

-Karyn’s background as a former Radio City Rockette means she applies precision, timing, structure, and consistency to every organizing job.
-She combines organizing with emotional support and coaching. Her approach comes across as encouraging rather than clinical or judgmental, which is especially valuable for seniors, overwhelmed families, and people going through transitions like downsizing or moving.

We specialize in supporting:

-Seniors and downsizing
-Busy families
-Moving transitions
-Paperwork and office systems.

Many organizers focus heavily on aesthetics. Our testimonials highlight actual life improvement: reducing overwhelm, managing moves, creating maintainable systems, and improving daily function years later.

The strongest differentiator may actually be this:
We help clients feel capable again. And that can mean the world.

Is professional organizing worth it?

Most clients come to us because they’ve run out of time, energy, or peace of mind. So the real question becomes: what would it feel like to get those things back?

Have you been meaning to get organized for a while (and feel perfectly capable of doing it yourself), but just…haven’t? Well, clutter can create a big mental block and it can be hard to start. For many people, a helping hand helps get the ball rolling, creates momentum, motivation and follow through and just gets it done! An extra pair of hands goes a long way. Karyn brings her energy, sense of fun, kindness and enthusiasm to every project she touches.

Many people who have hired an organizer say the value came from accountability, momentum, and mental relief. One client told us that that us improved their mental health more than almost anything else they had done. One client even shared that they had felt ready to die, and now were excited to be alive.

At the end of the day, you have to decide if working with an organizer is right for you. Why not try it out? We offer a free in-home consultation to see if it’s a fit
